It was October 10th, on a Saturday morning so early I could've been sleeping in but for what reason - other than having a lazy start to a weekend. I made the decision to take on another workshop class this year and this time hosted and taught by the talented Carla Hackett and the esteemed Barbara Enright.
So what did I learn? Many things. The art of typography and calligraphy like any craft, can't be learnt just like that. It does take time to acquire the technique, which showed throughout the process of my visual diary which we practised doing the alphabet and later on, flourishing. Flourishing is about making a word or your typography design one step further by giving it a bit of a fancy element through strokes that's fluid, rounded and intricate smooth lines around the type work.
I even walked away with a brush perfect for script and hand lettering work, along with a folder with my name on it by Barbara. Even met some awesome people who were passionate in the field of script and hand lettering, it was great to discover the diversity of people who won't just only use this towards a design practice but intertwine the script, towards other areas of practice such as, event management or name tags at the company they work at.
Here's to progress and more progress.
